You are guaranteed a pass on your MOT if your spare wheels are of the same construction as your regular ones. The MOT test seeks to check the wheels and tyres fitted to the car. Your spare tyre may or may not be tested. In situations where spare tyres and wheels have different construction from the regular ones, you may be given an advisory warning. A space saver wheel may contribute to the failure of your MOT test. The wheels and tyres on each axle must be of the same size. Usually, space saver wheels and tyres are smaller than the regular ones

Why should I have an MOT?

The tests carried out during an MOT ensures that your vehicle meets the required road safety and environmental safety standards thus making your vehicle roadworthy. The MOT test is NOT a replacement for servicing your vehicle, since it does not extend to advanced mechanical servicing works.

What do we check?

To ensure that your vehicle is roadworthy, the MOT test inspects road and environmental safety items such as your vehicle’s lights, brakes, suspension, structure, component security, tyres and emissions if they meet the test requirements. The law does not permit any MOT tester to remove any items or covers from the vehicle.

Beware,  the MOT test is an instantaneous test that does not guarantee the safety of the car but only its  working condition as at  the time the test is taken. These working conditions have been set by law as minimum requirements for every vehicle. Regular service should be the option if you want to ensure that your vehicle is mechanically sound. Servicing helps to discover potential faults that an MOT test can not reveal.
